S. Lalita Rao has over 20 years' experience in the banking industry, first at Industrial Development Bank of India [IDBI], and then at Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) where she voluntarily retired as Assistant General Manager handling portfolio of Micro Credit and Promotion & Development activities for NGOs/MFIs all over Karnataka.

On leaving SIDBI, she was engaged in freelance consultancy and worked with MFIs, NGOs, and small scale industries on diverse projects. She also conducted a study on the impact of micro credit on the quality of life of borrowers of 6 MFIs across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal and another on the impact of the operations of an MFI which has operations in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. She was also a visiting faculty for 2 management institutes in Bangalore.

Ms Rao was also involved in customized training on micro credit, methodologies, audit, process mapping for staff of MFIs and also facilitated the design and start up of micro credit operations of a trust attached to a corporate organization in India.

She is Portfolio Auditor certified by Micro Save.

Previous Experience

Her previous assignment was at Ujjivan Financial Services P Ltd, as Head of Audit, where she incorporated learnings from Micro Save LPAT Toolkit into regular audits. She oversaw the internal audit function at Ujjivan, encompassing rigorous branch audits by audit staff spread across India, as well as audits of the HR and Administration Departments, by independent CA firms.
